I’ve always been a creative spirit. As a child, I was the one filling blank books with stories, mixing scents into little “perfumes,” or recording my own pretend radio shows. My dad used to call me “Little Miss Cut n’ Paste.” Creativity was just in me. It was how I made sense of the world.
But like many of us, somewhere along the way, I chose a “practical” path. I ran a thriving arts organization, and while it gave me a community and incredible memories, I often found myself in the role of administrator — organizing, fundraising, keeping everything afloat — while others got to shine creatively. I was called the “mom” of the group. I was proud of what I built, but deep down, my own creative self was hidden in the background.
It wasn’t until my life went through big transitions — a separation, the closing of our venue, and the upheaval of the pandemic — that I finally asked myself the question I’d avoided for years: If I could do anything, what would I do? The honest answer scared me: I wanted to be an artist. Just an artist.
So I began painting again, not with pressure or expectation, but with freedom. I let color, shape, and texture lead me. I noticed how the long walks I took each day — the changing leaves, the muted grays of winter, the burst of spring blooms — were sneaking into my canvases. The seasons, with all their shifts, became my teachers. They reminded me that change, even when painful, carries beauty.
That’s how Seasonal Nostalgia was born. This series isn’t just about colors on canvas; it’s about capturing the way seasons mirror our own inner transitions — the quiet pauses, the bursts of energy, the bittersweet endings. Each painting is a reflection of growth, resilience, and the beauty of becoming.
My hope is that when you bring one of these pieces into your home, you’ll feel the same sense of grounding and renewal I felt while creating them. That you’ll look at it and be reminded that you, too, are in a season, and that season holds beauty, memory, and possibility.
